Metal of India, my
   Sir Toby Belch uses this term to Olivia’s chambermaid, Maria, in Twelfth Night (2:v), though the Second Folio prints it as ‘nettle of India’. The metal reference would be to gold, which was associated with India in the seventeenth century. In modern times Sir Toby might have said ‘my golden girl’.
